The Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs (WDVA) is currently recruiting for Limited-Term Employment Nursing Assistants at the Wisconsin Veterans Home in Union Grove. The Veterans Home is a 24/7/365 long-term-care facility dedicated to providing services to Wisconsin veterans and their families. Our facility is located a short drive from Milwaukee, Racine, Kenosha and other key locations throughout southeastern Wisconsin. Come join our team!
This is objective-level certified nursing assistant (CNA) work with responsibility for providing direct and indirect nursing care, in accordance with standards set by the American Nurses Association; gerontological nursing practice; federal, state and Veterans Administration (VA) regulations; and the mission, philosophy, policies and procedures of the Wisconsin Veterans Home at Union Grove (WVHUG) and the Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs (WDVA). Responsibilities include providing nursing care that follows a written care plan to help meet the therapeutic, preventative, restorative, spiritual, psychosocial, cognitive, and rehabilitative needs of WVHUG members. This includes cognitive techniques to help maintain the demented member at the highest functional level. This position works as an integral part of the health care team, under the direction of licensed nursing staff, with limited supervision by a Nursing Supervisor.
Minimally-qualified applicants must be18 years of age on or before the effective date of the appointment and have the following:
A current State of Wisconsin Nursing Assistant certification and eligibility to work in a federally-certified nursing home as a Certified Nursing Assistant
The ability to work varying hours and/or overtime shifts as required, including attending 1-1/2 weeks of orientation
The ability to work in the conditions of position (i.e., perform light housekeeping, assist patients with daily living activities; maintain hygiene, use special safety equipment, wear personal protective equipment and clothing; lift, carry, push, pull, reach, sit, kneel, squat, and stand and/or walk up to 75% of an 8-hour day)
Experience or education in providing Basic Nursing Care (e.g., complete daily nursing cares; follow goals and approaches; assist patients with personal care tasks; encourage and assist food intake; assist with ambulation and transfers; obtain temperature, pulse, respirations, weight, output and specimen for lab analysis; administer basic procedures; assist patient participation in activities; utilize infection control practices; observe and report of significant condition changes; prioritizing patient needs)
Interpersonal Skills (e.g., establish and maintain relationships, assist licensed staff; provide information; work as part of a team; orient and mentor new nursing assistants)
Experience with Recordkeeping (e.g., patient charting; recording facts and observations)
