The Department of Natural Resources is hiring a Human Resources Assistant stationed in Madison.

The Wisconsin DNR is located at 101 S. Webster Street in the heart of downtown Madison, near the state capitol, the Madison Metro bus route and the Capital City bike path. In addition, there are tons of nearby restaurants and shopping venues.  In partnership with individuals and organizations, the DNR staff manage fish, wildlife, forests, parks, air, and water resources while promoting a healthy, sustainable environment and a full range of outdoor activities.

Position Summary:   

The Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is looking for a highly motivated, detail-oriented individual who is dedicated to providing outstanding customer service to both the internal and external clients of the Bureau of Human Resources. This position will provide you with the opportunity to work for a fantastic organization, attaining a great deal of personal satisfaction and reward, while providing you with valuable human resources experience within the DNR.

This position will work approximately 25 hours per week for a period of up to 12 months, depending on the needs of the Agency. The preferred working hours for this position will be Mondays and Wednesdays from 7:45am until 12:45pm, and then Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7:45am until 4:30pm. There may be some flexibility allowed with those hours.

The HR Assistant will support recruitment and staffing activities for hiring of permanent and project employees, support HR program communication and file management initiatives,  support on-boarding and off-boarding of employees, and provide business support for program office functions. A more detailed position description can be provided upon request.

Special Notes:   

This is a limited term (LTE) position.  Limited term positions do not automatically lead to or enjoy the same benefits as permanent employment, but this position does offer valuable work experience and an opportunity to learn more about career opportunities with the Department of Natural Resources and the State of Wisconsin.  LTE employees are limited to working 1039 hours within a twelve-month period. In order to be considered for this position, you must be a resident of the State of Wisconsin.

Qualifications:   

Required Criteria:
- Skill in providing a high level of responsiveness and customer service to both internal and external clients
- Skill in the use of computers, including word processing, spreadsheets, database and email software
- Skill in verbal and written communication, with strong spelling, grammar and composition skills.
- Superior attention to detail.
- Ability to maintain positive and professional working relationships with employees, supervisors, administrators and the general public
- Ability to work in a fast-paced work environment with numerous interruptions and shifting priorities.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.

Preferred Criteria:
- Experience working in an office setting
- Experience working in a Human Resources setting
