This position is in pay schedule 06, pay range 10. Pay upon transfer, demotion or reinstatement is based on the compensation rules applicable to the transaction. Minimum starting salary $13.11 per hour. A twelve-month probationary period is required.
The Department of Public Instruction is currently filling a 42% school year Child Care Counselor 1 position located at the Wisconsin School for the Deaf (WSD), 309 West Walworth Avenue, Delavan.
Design, implement, reinforce instructional/behavioral management goals and objectives in daily living skills for deaf/disabled children in a residential setting. Work with children to develop interpersonal skills, study habits, leisure and recreation skills in the after school hours. Assist and supervisor students in a structured and non-structured setting. Maintain a healthy, safe, secure environment. Provide supervised transport of students on airplanes, buses or drive them in state owned vehicles as required.
A valid driver's license is required upon appointment. Must be able to chaperone students in airplanes. This includes having the ability to verbally communicate effectively and understand directives from the pilot and reply in spoken English from any area of the aircraft while in flight in both emergencies and normal air travel.This position also requires a fluency rating on the American Sign Language proficiency Interview (ASLPI) assessment of at least 2 upon hire and 2+ upon completion of probation.
