The Department of Natural Resources is hiring an Air Management Specialist stationed at our Milwaukee Service Center.

Position Summary:   

The Air Management Specialist will perform ambient air monitoring sample collection duties. This includes preparation of sample media for field use, collection and installation of samples, processing samples for shipment, completion of chain of custody to preserve sample integrity. The position will also perform routine and unscheduled maintenance on samplers as needed, and complete necessary associated documentation. Additionally, the position will perform post sample collection activities, this includes the completion of data submittal and custody transfer. Duties involve preparation of sample media for field dispatch, collection and set up of field samples, processing and packaging of samples for shipping. Duties also include completing electronic and written records of the sample collection activities and ensure sample chain of custody.  

The employee must have and utilize knowledge of specialized sampling techniques, instrumentation and procedures. This includes the ability to operate standard and specialized instrumentation and to perform skilled technical procedures. Must be able to work under general supervision, assume responsibility for completing assigned projects. Must perform specific tasks related manual ambient air monitoring sample collection for the Biowatch Network.

This position will work under the direction of the BioWatch Coordinator. Communicate with the coordinator to ensure statewide initiatives are being implemented and practiced for the Biowatch Network. There are specific time requirements for collection, setup and shipment of samples. This necessitates a non-standard schedule. Some work will occur on weekends and holidays.

Special Notes:   

This is a limited term (LTE) position. Limited term positions do not automatically lead to or enjoy the same benefits as permanent employment, but this position does offer valuable work experience and an opportunity to learn more about career opportunities with the Department of Natural Resources and the State of Wisconsin. LTE employees are limited to working 1039 hours within a twelve-month period. In order to be considered for this position, you must be a resident of the State of Wisconsin.

Qualifications:   

Minimum Qualifications:

- General mechanical aptitude to operate air monitoring equipment
- Must be able to travel to multiple locations
- Willingness to work outdoors in extreme and varying weather conditions
- Ability to lift equipment weighing up to 50 pounds
- This position requires weekends, holidays and early morning hours
- Requires background check (to meet Homeland Security protocol)
