Salary:
Starting pay is $29.00 to $34.00 per hour ($60,320 to $70,720 annually). Pay for current & former state employees may vary based on provisions in the State of Wisconsin Compensation Plan. These positions include an excellent benefits package, including health care, vacation, sick leave, & retirement benefits (including supplemental retirement for Protective status). These positions are non-represented and included in Pay Schedule/Range 81-03. A one-year probationary period may be required.

The Department of Natural Resources excels at protecting and managing Wisconsin’s natural resources while supporting the economy and the well-being of the citizenry. Within DNR, the Division of Forestry works in partnership to administer programs that protect and sustain our forested lands throughout the state, combining technical and financial assistance, planning, research, technology, education, and policy to help meet the many demands on the forest both today and for many years to come.

To help achieve our mission, we are seeking well-qualified people to fill two Forestry Team Leader positions. One position is located in Oconto Falls. The other position is located in either Wausau, Tomahawk, Medford, or Merrill, based on the preference of the selected candidate. Position Summary:   
The Forestry Team Leader is responsible for the first-line supervision & management of the Division’s integrated programs for the assigned geographic area. The position reports to the Area Forestry Leader & supervises foresters and forestry technicians performing the full range of forestry work. The position is responsible for developing & maintaining healthy partnerships. The position also has forest fire management responsibilities.

Special Notes:   
These Forestry Team Leaders are granted Protective status as a result of their duties in active fire suppression. These duties require frequent exposure to a high degree of danger or peril and also require a high degree of physical conditioning. Therefore, successful candidates are required to meet and maintain the physical fitness test standards defined for all DNR Protective-status positions.

Successful candidates must be able to obtain and maintain Forest Ranger law enforcement credentials within 18 months of hire by attending on-the-job training and becoming certified.

Successful candidates must be able to obtain and maintain a valid Wisconsin driver's license and meet the requirements to operate a state vehicle.

Employment will require the selected candidate to pass a background check. DNR does not sponsor work visas, thus, in compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify eligibility to work in the United States by completing the required I-9 form upon hire.

Qualifications:   
Applicants must possess the following required qualifications to be at least minimally qualified for this position:
  •  Forestry experience related to both forest fire management and forest land management
  •  Leadership experience, as specified on Instructions page

Best-qualified candidates will also possess the following preferred qualifications:
  •  Integrated forestry experience in fire management, public lands management and
     private lands management
  •  Forestry program management experience, as specified on Instructions page
