The Department of Natural Resources is hiring a Wildlife Technician stationed at the Fitchburg Service Center.

Position Summary:   

This position will assist the wildlife management team in the Fitchburg work unit with property management, maintenance and daily operations of equipment, biological monitoring of game species and stocking pheasants on public lands. This work involves conducting wildlife surveys, assisting with waterfowl and dove banding and summer deer and game bird observations. The Wildlife Technician will also assist with the implementation of the prescribed burning program, including maintaining and preparing equipment necessary for prescribed burning such as small engines, pumps, water tanks, hand tools, and personal protective equipment.

Special Notes:   

This is a limited term (LTE) position. Limited term positions do not automatically lead to or enjoy the same benefits as permanent employment, but this position does offer valuable work experience and an opportunity to learn more about career opportunities with the Department of Natural Resources and the State of Wisconsin. LTE employees are limited to working 1039 hours within a twelve-month period. In order to be considered for this position, you must be a resident of the State of Wisconsin.

Employment will require the selected candidate to pass a background check.  DNR does not sponsor work visas, thus, in compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify eligibility to work in the United States by completing the required I-9 form upon hire.

Qualifications:   

Minimum Qualifications:
- Working knowledge of wildlife management techniques pertaining to common Wisconsin habitat types.
- Experience or knowledge of equipment operation and maintenance including ATVs, boats, chainsaws and tractors.
- Experience or knowledge of wildlife surveys and biological monitoring techniques.
- Candidates are required to have a driver's license and the willingness to acquire a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) upon being hired.
