Starting pay is $10.50 per hour. Pay on appointment for current or former state employees may vary based on the applicable provisions in the State Compensation Plan. This position is in Pay Schedule/Range 03-08.

Laborers (General Maintenance Workers) perform a variety of maintenance duties including operation of trucks, tractors and specialized equipment, painting, trail and road maintenance, signing, hazardous tree removal, toilet cleaning, garbage and recycling collection, and use of power tools and chain saws. May also work with removal of invasive plant species. Some work is hard physical labor. Knowledge: Maintenance experience preferred but not mandatory. Ability to work outside under difficult weather conditions is required. Employment: work 40 hours per week, mid-May through August, possibly into fall depending on workload. Candidates must have a valid driver's license and a minimum of 2 years of driving experience.
This is a limited term (LTE) position. Limited term positions do not automatically lead to or enjoy the same benefits as permanent employment, but this position does offer valuable work experience and an opportunity to learn more about career opportunities with the Department of Natural Resources and the State of Wisconsin. LTE employees are limited to working 1039 hours within a twelve-month period. In order to be considered for this position, you must be a resident of the State of Wisconsin.
Employment will require the selected candidate to pass a background check. DNR does not sponsor work visas, thus, in compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify eligibility to work in the United States by completing the required I-9 form upon hire.
Required Qualifications: - Knowledge, skills and experience of general maintenance operations - Building/facility or repair maintenance experience - Ability to work independently, be self-motivated and punctual. - Ability to work a modified schedule; nights, weekends, holidays, etc.
Preferred Qualifications: - Prior work experience with lawn/landscape equipment; riding lawn mowers, chainsaws, weed whips, etc. - Prior work experience in janitorial services. - Prior work experience with State Parks or Forests.
