The Department of Natural Resources – Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO) is searching for an experienced, reliable and task-oriented Program Assistant to join their team! The Program Assistant will work directly with the Chief Information Officer (CIO) and other program staff while performing a number of administrative duties. The ideal candidate is highly self-motivated, professional, and capable of multitasking and prioritizing tasks in a fast-paced environment.
This position will be stationed at DNR Central Office, in the heart of downtown Madison, near the state capitol, the Madison Metro bus route and the Capital City bike path.

This position provides confidential support to the Chief Information Officer (CIO), and secondary support to the Office of the CIO professional staff. The position encompasses executive administrative, topic development and analytic duties, in support of Business relationships, IT project and portfolio management, IT finance, IT resource, process, priority and organizational activities. This position is accountable to demonstrate a commitment to quality, collaboration, clear communication, positive service orientation and organizational success, health and security, and respect in the workplace.
This is a limited term (LTE) position. Limited term positions do not automatically lead to or enjoy the same benefits as permanent employment, but this position does offer valuable work experience and an opportunity to learn more about career opportunities with the Department of Natural Resources and the State of Wisconsin. LTE employees are limited to working 1039 hours within a twelve-month period. In order to be considered for this position, you must be a resident of the State of Wisconsin.
Employment will require the selected candidate to pass a background check. DNR does not sponsor work visas, thus, in compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify eligibility to work in the United States by completing the required I-9 form upon hire.
- Prior experience as an assistant or other office support role
- Experience working with finance and/or IT systems
- Experience in data gathering, processing, analytics
- Experience in project and program management
- Experience in Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, SharePoint
- Experience working with State or other government agencies
- Highly organized, structured, proactive, collaborative and proactive learning skills.
- Familiar with multitasking in a complex organization
