Salary:
Starting wage is between $19.83 and $21.62 per hour, plus additional compensation earned for weekends, nights, holidays, and overtime, as well as an excellent benefits package (for 60% or more positions). This position is in pay schedule and range 06-05. For current or eligible former State employees, pay on appointment will be set in accordance with the applicable provisions of the Wisconsin Compensation Plan. A twelve-month probationary period is required.

The Wisconsin Veterans Home at King, a long-term-care facility that specializes in providing comfort, support and professional medical services to elderly or disabled Veterans and their spouses is currently seeking to fill multiple full- and part-time Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) positions. Our LPN positions work either AM or PM shift and include holidays and weekends.

Position Summary:   

Working directly with members and families, the position is responsible for providing direct patient care for geriatric and/or disabled members (patients) while ensuring quality patient care. Examples of duties performed include: making critical observations of members; performing personal cares, treatments, medication administration and documentation; gathering patient data (e.g. blood pressures, pulses, accu checks); participating in the management of indirect care and maintenance of assigned unit or building; and participating in activities which facilitate the development and achievement of unit, building, bureau and facility goals and objectives.

Employment in this position is contingent upon passing a pre-employment physical and tuberculosis (TB) test.

Must be available to work varying hours and/or overtime shifts as required.

This position requires the ability to move, reposition, transport patients, use special safety equipment, wear protective clothing, lift, carry, push, pull, reach, including pushing medication carts, work standing, sitting, kneeling or in stooping positions and stand and/or walk, up to 75% of an 8-hour day.

Qualifications:   

Minimally-qualified applicants:

  • Must be licensed or eligible for licensure as a Practical Nurse in the State of Wisconsin or Nurse Licensure Compact State.
  • Will have experience providing basic nursing cares (e.g. answer call lights, etc.)
  • Will have experience performing medication administration and basic treatments (e.g. measure, administer and record medications as ordered; perform basic treatments; perform narcotic counts; etc.)
  • Will have experience working collaboratively (e.g. multidisciplinary healthcare teams, establishing and maintain positive relationships, etc.)
  • Will have experience using computers and applications (e.g. electronic technology, electronic charting systems, etc.)

Well-qualified applicants will have:

  • Experience providing advanced nursing care (e.g. complex treatments; assessing and documenting patient status; assisting pharmacy with drug exchange; investigating and solving problems; assisting other staff; assist RN with coordinating work of healthcare team and directing of activities based on patient needs, etc.), and
  • Experience in a Relevant Setting (e.g. long-term care, geriatric, etc.)
