The Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs currently has several Limited Term Employment (LTE) positions available for fulfilling work in a therapeutic services role.

Position Summary:   

The Therapy Assistant is an integral part of the health care team.  This position is responsible for participating and assisting in activity therapy programs, and providing social engagement to our Veteran Members.  A Therapy Assistant will also assist caregiver staff by keeping patient areas clean, stock up on general supplies and help with set up and clean up at meal times.

This is an excellent opportunity to provide services to our Veterans and give back to those who gave so much for us and our freedoms.  No special licensing or certification is needed for this position. 

Special Notes:   

Due to the nature of the position, WDVA will conduct background checks on applicants prior to an offer of employment.

Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States (i.e., a citizen or national of the U.S., a lawful permanent resident, alien authorized to work in the U.S. without WDVA sponsorship) at the time of application.

Employment in this position is contingent upon passing a pre-employment physical and tuberculosis (TB) test.

Per Wisconsin Statute 230.26, Wisconsin residency is required for LTE appointments.



Minimally-qualified applicants will have:

  • Ability to move/assist in the transport of patients in wheelchairs
  • The ability to communicate effectively with a wide variety of people
  • Skill in basic computer use, organization and planning

Well-qualified applicants will have:

  • Knowledge of HIPAA rules and regulation that govern patient privacy
  • Ability to carry out light housekeeping functions in assisting patients with daily living activities
  • Have physical ability to lift, carry, push, pull, reach and to work standing, or sitting for an extended period of time
