Do you have an interest in nature and would like the opportunity to teach others about natural resources in Wisconsin? The Bureau of Parks and Recreation is hiring an Assistant Naturalist Guide stationed at the Chippewa Moraine Ice Age Reserve and Interpretive Center located near New Auburn, Wisconsin.

Position Summary:   

The Assistant Naturalist Guide will be responsible for conducting interpretive and education programs to interpret property natural and cultural resources, teach outdoor skills, and encourage resource stewardship. This includes developing programs, displays, exhibits and other presentation methods for visitors, school groups and other community/volunteer associations. In addition, this position will also greet visitors. This involves providing information and answering visitor questions concerning the Ice Age Reserve, discussing the area's recreational opportunities, distributing maps and brochures, and collecting fees for merchandise, park passes and camping reservations.

Special Notes:   

These are limited term (LTE) positions. Limited term positions do not automatically lead to or have the same benefits as permanent employment, but this position does offer valuable work experience and an opportunity to learn more about career opportunities with the Department of Natural Resources and the State of Wisconsin. LTE employees are limited to working 1039 hours within a twelve-month period. In order to be considered for this position, you must be a resident of the State of Wisconsin.

Employment will require the selected candidate to pass a background check.  DNR does not sponsor work visas, thus, in compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify eligibility to work in the United States by completing the required I-9 form upon hire.


Minimum Qualifications:
- Excellent customer service and public relations skills in order to effectively communicate with coworkers, the public and school age children.
- Ability to work independently, be self-motivated, and punctual with minimal direct supervision
- Proficient in use of computer and with handling cash and credit sales.
- Ability to work on a variety of tasks and prioritize accordingly

Due to equipment usage, you must have a valid regular operator's license; a minimum of two years licensed driving experience and must be at least 18 years of age.
