The Department of Natural Resources is hiring a Natural Resources Educator LTE at the Horicon Marsh Education and Visitor Center!
Horicon Marsh is the largest freshwater cattail marsh in the United States! This renowned marsh is home to the Horicon Marsh Education and Visitor Center. The Wildlife Education Program has been conducted at the marsh since the mid-1980s. This program focuses on the abundant wildlife resources of the marsh, their ecology and applied management. The program relies on the diverse wildlife to develop a wide range of educational programs aimed at introducing and sharing our native wildlife with a broad audience.
This educator position will assist with development and implementation of the wildlife education program at the Horicon Marsh Education and Visitor Center. This will include development of curriculum, conducting educational programming for all ages, and participation in special educational and interpretive events run at the center and across the region. These education programs include both indoor and outdoor hands-on activities, A/V presentations and will be developed for specific audiences including the general public, elementary and middle school students. The Education Program focuses on the marsh's natural features, flora, wildlife, and management issues.

This is a limited term (LTE) position. Limited term positions do not automatically lead to or enjoy the same benefits as permanent employment, but this position does offer valuable work experience and an opportunity to learn more about career opportunities with the Department of Natural Resources and the State of Wisconsin. LTE employees are limited to working 1039 hours within a twelve-month period. In order to be considered for this position, you must be a resident of the State of Wisconsin.
Employment will require the selected candidate to pass a background check. DNR does not sponsor work visas, thus, in compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify eligibility to work in the United States by completing the required I-9 form upon hire.
Required Qualifications: - Experience, training or education related to general principles of ecology, wildlife ecology and wildlife management - Experience, training or education related to outdoor education teaching techniques and principles of outdoor interpretation - Experience with word processing, spreadsheet/data management and communication software programs including familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint; publication layout and design, graphic design, and use of standard graphic design software such as Adobe InDesign/ Photoshop/Illustrator
Preferred Qualifications: - Experience using wildlife and habitat monitoring procedures and field equipment - Experience with childhood development and learning theories, lesson plan and curriculum development; - Knowledge or experience with major environmental educational program approaches (Project Wild, Project WET, Flying WILD, etc.)
