*Temporary jobs are referred to as limited term employment (LTE). While limited term employment does not automatically lead to or enjoy the same benefits as permanent employment, these positions provide valuable work experience and an opportunity to explore different permanent job and career options at the Wisconsin Department of Corrections.

Limited term employees receive the following benefits:

  • Workers’ Compensation

  • Unemployment Compensation

  • Social Security

  • Wisconsin Retirement System (WRS) participation. Once a LTE has worked for 600 hours within a one year period, they may be eligible to participate in the WRS.

  • Health insurance. Once a LTE begins participation in the WRS, they become eligible to enroll in the state health insurance program and pay the full premium. With six months of WRS participation eligibility begins for state participation, that is the state pays partial premiums.

  • LTE’s are paid for holidays if asked to work
