The starting pay is between $53,793 and $88,758 per year depending on qualifications, plus excellent benefits. The pay schedule/range is 07-02. A 6-month probationary period will be required. This position is included in the Fiscal and Staff Services bargaining unit. |

The Department of Corrections administers Wisconsin’s state prisons, community correctional centers, and juvenile corrections programs. It supervises the custody and discipline of all prisoners in order to protect the public and seeks to rehabilitate offenders and reintegrate them into society. The Department of Corrections (DOC); Division of Management Services (DMS); Bureau of Technology Management (BTM), central office 3099 E. Job Duties:
This advanced level position functions in a role as an IT Security Specialist. This position independently resolves conflicts and problems by applying theoretical and practical knowledge related to security. The position’s assignments are difficult and complex and have overall responsibility for the design, implementation, and monitoring of security solutions to protect information and systems for the DOC. The position is responsible for administration and monitoring of the agency’s Active Directory, messaging and remote access solutions. The position also provides leadership and training to staff and management designated in the agency to be involved in computer security and/or security administrative functions. The position serves as a consultant and advisor for the development of policies, procedures, standards, and the implementation of information security best practices in support of IT policies and standards. The position is responsible for developing, maintaining, and monitoring compliance with IT Security Standards and Policies. Special Notes:

No contracts. The Department of Corrections will conduct criminal background checks on applicants prior to selection. Upon hire, all new DOC employees are subject to fingerprinting. Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Advanced-level knowledge of security concepts, tools, best practices, and investigation techniques; experience with Microsoft Active Directory, MIIS, Directory Services, SA, Authentication, Access Controls, Provisioning, and LDAP; scripting tools such as VB; knowledge of authentication techniques, access controls, audit log review and reporting tools, physical security mechanisms, linkage controls, software coding and change control disciplines; extensive knowledge of NIST standards and guidelines, including development of System Security Plans, Risk Assessments, Security Testing and Evaluations, Configuration Management, Privacy Impact Assessments, etc. for a large enterprise network; demonstrated understanding of regulatory compliance issues such as SOX, PCI, CISP, HIPAA, etc; experience creating security standards and requirements, and conducting security assessments; ability to maintain confidentiality of all security issues which also includes Legal investigations and Compliance, and HR data requests; work independently with minimal supervision; synthesize complex information, identify key points, and communicate results accurately and effectively; function in a team-oriented environment, work on projects, and instruct/educate others in security related practices and policies; advanced working knowledge of project management concepts and tools; knowledge of and ability to perform technology and product research, testing, installation, customization, troubleshooting, and support; advanced-level knowledge and demonstrated work experience with security techniques, tools, and security infrastructure design, and with server operating systems such as Windows, Unix, and Linux; and significant understanding of network protocols and a demonstrated understanding of how to secure network protocols.
