The Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs is currently recruiting for multiple Custodian positions at our Wisconsin Veterans Home at King and Wisconsin Veterans Home at Union Grove. These positions clean and sanitize assigned building areas on the Home campus. Our Homes are skilled nursing, long-term care facilities that specializes in providing comfort, support, and professional medical services to elderly or disabled veterans and their spouses. Our King Home is located on the picturesque shoreline of the Chain O'Lakes, off Highway 10 between Stevens Point and Appleton. Our Union Grove Home is located a short drive from Milwaukee, Racine, Kenosha and other key locations throughout southeastern Wisconsin. Join the Custodial Services team that maintains clean and enjoyable living and recreation areas for Wisconsin veterans!
Under the general supervision of the Custodial Services Supervisor and with day-to-day guidance of the Custodian-Lead, this position is responsible for cleaning and sanitizing patientcare and non-patientcare areas. Duties include washing, dusting and mopping; operating power floor cleaning equipment; and moving furniture. All work is performed following standard safety principles and practices and the Home's custodial standard operating procedures.
Performing the job duties requires climbing, reaching and bending; performing sustained physical activity; performing heavy work, including occasionally exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force; operating loud, shaking and/or vibrating equipment; and working on ladders and/or scaffolding.
These Custodian positions work a scheduled eight hour shift Monday through Friday between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 5:30 p.m., plus rotating weekends and holidays. To view the full job description, click here.

Employment in this position is contingent upon passing a pre-employment physical and tuberculosis (TB) test.
Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States (i.e., a citizen or national of the U.S., a lawful permanent resident, an alien authorized to work in the U.S. without WDVA sponsorship) at the time of application.
Minimally-qualified applicants will have experience:
- Cleaning; and
- Using safety practices/controls; and
- Following instructions/standard operating procedures; and
- Working as a member of a team
Well-qualified applicants will also have experience:
- Operating and maintaining manual and motorized equipment; and/or
- With interpersonal communication
