Salary is $13.65 per hour, plus additional compensation earned for weekends, nights, holidays, overtime as well as an excellent benefits package. Sign-on bonus of $1,000.00 for eligible employees. This position is in pay schedule and range 06-10. A 12-month probationary period is required. For current or eligible former State employees, pay on appointment will be set in accordance with the Wisconsin Compensation Plan.

The Wisconsin Veterans Home at King is a skilled nursing facility set on the picturesque shoreline of the Chain O' Lakes located off Hwy 10 between Stevens Point and Appleton. This is a long-term-care facility that specializes in providing comfort, support, and professional medical services to elderly or disabled Veterans and their spouses. We are currently recruiting Nursing Assistant Trainees which is scheduled to begin on April 1, 2019. If you are interested in starting a career in healthcare, this may be the opening for you!

Position Summary:   

Following completion of the orientation and training program, the nursing assistant trainee will participate in and be responsible for providing and maintaining appropriate programs of care, treatment, training and daily living for members in an assigned area or areas. Responsibilities include: providing basic nursing care following a written care plan to help meet the therapeutic, preventative, restorative, spiritual, psychosocial, cognitive and rehabilitative needs of the members. This includes some cognitive techniques to help maintain the demented member at the highest functional level. This position works as an integral part of the health care team under the direct/close supervision of a Nursing Supervisor, under the direction of licensed nursing staff.

Nursing Assistant Trainee's will spend a minimum of 5 weeks in training/orientation upon appointment.

Nursing Assistant Trainee's must be able to assist with mobility efforts; wear protective clothing and use special safety equipment; lift, carry, push, pull, reach, stand, sit, kneel, squat; stand and/or walk up to 75% of eight hour day.

A minimally qualified applicant must be:

  • able to work holidays, weekends, and all three shifts; AM shift (5:30 a.m.-2:00 p.m.), PM shift (1:45 p.m.-10:15 p.m.), and Night shift (10:00 p.m.-6:00 a.m.)
  • available to work additional shifts as required to maintain facility's required staffing levels
  • able to attend all hours of training
  • 18 years of age on or before the effective date of the appointment (Note: see How to Apply section if you will not meet the age requirement by the time of appointment (April 1, 2019))
  • able to communicate effectively with a wide variety of people

A well-qualified applicant will have experience performing care procedures, problem solving and using computers.
