Pay on appointment for current or eligible former State employees will be set in accordance with the WI Compensation Plan. A 12-month probationary period may be required.

The Wisconsin Veterans Home at King (WVHK), is currently recruiting for a Food Service Supervisor, to direct and monitor the work of first-line food service staff in the Distribution Unit of Dietary Services for the WVHK campus. WVHK is a skilled nursing, long-term care facility that specializes in providing comfort, support, and professional medical services to elderly or disabled veterans and their spouses. The facility is located on the picturesque shoreline of the Chain O'Lakes, off Highway 10 between Stevens Point and Appleton.

Position Summary:   

Have large-volume food service experience? Want to apply your talents in service to Wisconsin Veterans? Join our team, dedicated to serving those who have served us all!

Under general supervision by the Food Service Manager, this position is responsible for supervising the activities of a large food service distribution unit; operating a centralized tray assembly line and centralized warewashing; directing meal service on nursing units and in dining rooms; maintaining records and providing reports relating to meal service at WVHK. The incumbent also performs back up duties for other food service positions including Food Service Assistant, Cook and Baker as necessary, and may also assume responsibilities of Food Service Manager or other supervisory personnel when regular staff are absent.

Employment in this position is contingent upon passing a pre-employment physical and tuberculosis (TB) test.

Minimally-qualified applicants will have experience:

  • Working in large-scale, high-volume dining services (e.g., satellite service, menu planning, service models, accommodating dietary needs/therapeutic diets, QA, washing operations, meal service, etc.); and
  • Applying accepted practices of safe storage & handling of food and/or food safety & sanitation (e.g., temperature, cooking/cooling times, date marking, mixing/using solutions, using gloves/masks/nets, hygiene, etc.); and
  • Ensuring compliance with standards and/or regulations; and
  • Meeting established timelines

Well-qualified applicants will also have experience:

  • Performing lead worker functions (e.g., orientation, training/cross training, coaching/mentoring, monitoring progress, providing feedback, setting goals/plans, reviewing work product, etc.); and/or
  • Performing supervisory functions (e.g., recruiting, interviewing, evaluating performance, disciplining, writing job descriptions, conducting meetings, counseling on timeliness and quality, assigning work, etc.); and/or
  • Resolving teamwork issues/conflict; and/or
  • Helping improve performance; and/or
  • Taking initiative and leading others
