Starting pay for the entry level is between $37,356 and $60,382 annually ($17.96 - $29.03 per hour). Starting pay for the advanced level is between $48,630 and $78,686 annually ($23.38 - $37.83 per hour). Pay on appointment for current or former state employees based on the State Compensation Plan. The entry is Pay Schedule/Range 14-14, advanced is 14-13. A 12-month probation period is required.

This Air Management Engineer position will assist in the implementation of the compliance emission program, including emission testing (stack test) and continuous emission monitoring. The position will perform work under supervision while developing an understanding of criteria pollutants and the associated emission reference test methods.
A successful candidate will take the initiative to use communication and negotiation skills to develop productivity, consistency, and effectiveness of statewide compliance testing activities. The position requires an engineering approach to problem solving. The position works with departmental teams, the public, representatives from affected business, local officials, other state agencies, and the federal government to accomplish assigned goals.

This position may require the selected candidate to infrequently work at heights while completing emissions testing. Travel throughout the state, requiring overnight stays and working a non-standard schedule may also be required.

Minimally qualified candidates will meet one of the criteria listed below: • Registration as a Professional Engineer as determined by the Department of Safety and Professional Services per s. 443.04, Wis. Stats • A specific record, issued by the professional engineering section of the Department of Safety and Professional Services, showing 4 years or more of experience in engineering work of a character satisfactory to the professional engineering section AND satisfactory completion of the fundamentals of engineering exam • Has graduated or will graduate by time of appointment from a recognized college or university with a degree in a related engineering field • Has equivalent professional training and practical experience so as to be deemed a professional engineer as defined in Department of Safety and Professional Services per s. 443.01, Wis. Stats. AND also deemed to be qualified to engage in professional engineering practice as determined by the Department of Safety and Professional Services per s. 443.04 or 443.05, Wis. Stats.
